Helena Stockar
People fascinated Helena in their complexity, yet transparency. She often claimed that as one’s eyes are the window to one’s soul, our faces are the chiseled signatures of our true character, especially as we age. Thus, she loved to paint portraits in a way that revealed the nature of the subject, whether inspired by a particular person or a collective of similar spirits. These stylize faces are the most common images in Helena’s works whether in flowing compositions or as the singular focus of her portraits.
