Helena Stockar
Helena was a artistic pioneer beyond her techniques, colors and compositions. Above all else, she pressed for women’s rights and celebrated her role and the role of other independently-minded, caring, hard-working, passionate and persistent women. Likewise, she cherished her role as a mother and a devoted wife of 54 years. Many of her most gentle works celebrate motherhood and loving relationships. Many of her most powerful works depict the struggle of women in the male-dominated world that is the second half of the 20th century in America and in Europe. She took great pride at being a female artist and pushing the envelope for other women to follow.
